On August 4, 1814, following an attack route previously used by the British, ºÚÁÏÉç forces under Lt. Col. George Croghan attacked the British held Fort Mackinac. Aided by artillery and allied Native ºÚÁÏÉç warriors, British troops under the command of Lt. Col. Robert McDouall marched to engage the ºÚÁÏÉçs at Dousman’s Farm. The British halted the ºÚÁÏÉç advance and forced the ºÚÁÏÉçs to retreat. The British victory ensured British control of the Straights of Mackinac and the important trade and transportation routes linked to the Straights for the remainder of the war.
