Think you've got what it takes to become the Ultimate GettysNerd?
Four contestants will earn the opportunity to compete live on stage through an online qualifying exam.
How to Qualify
- Register for the GettysNerd online qualifying exam (date TBA).
- Watch your email for instructions and the testing link.
- Complete the online qualifying quiz during the designated testing window.
- The four highest-scoring participants will receive invitations to compete live during GettysNerd 3.0.

GettysNerd 3.0 is part of the 2026 ºÚÁÏÉç Battlefield BookFest, celebrating outstanding Civil War scholarship, authors, and history enthusiasts from across the country.
Terms, Rules & Conditions
By participating in GettysNerd 3.0: The Ultimate Civil War Quiz Show ("Game Show"), you agree to the following terms and conditions established by the ºÚÁÏÉç and Gettysburg History ("Organizers").
Eligibility
- Participants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of entry.
- The Game Show is open to individuals worldwide, except where prohibited by law.
- Employees, affiliates, agents, and immediate family members of the Organizers are not eligible.
- Current Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guides and current National Park Service employees are not eligible to compete.
Entry
- Participants must register using accurate and complete information.
- One entry per person.
- Attempts to manipulate or cheat the registration or qualifying process will result in disqualification.
Gameplay
- The competition consists of multiple timed trivia rounds.
- Contestants must submit answers within the allotted time.
- Only the first answer submitted will be accepted.
- Decisions made by the judges and Organizers are final.
- Participants in the online qualifying round are responsible for maintaining a reliable internet connection.
Question categories may include, but are not limited to:
- Antebellum personalities
- Antebellum events
- Civil War battles and campaigns
- Military leaders and personalities
- Regiments and units
- Civil War weapons and equipment
- Civilians and politics
- Medical history
- Farms and landscapes
- Monuments and memorialization
- The Gettysburg Address
- Books and authors
- Podcasts, films, and television
- General Civil War knowledge
Prizes & Travel
- Prizes will be awarded based on performance.
- Prizes are non-transferable and may not be exchanged.
- Winners may be required to provide information necessary for prize distribution.
- Winners are responsible for any applicable taxes.
- Contestants are responsible for arranging and paying for their own travel and lodging.
- The Organizers will provide each on-stage contestant with a $100 travel stipend, payable following the conclusion of the event.
Disqualification
Participants may be disqualified for:
- Cheating
- Unsportsmanlike or inappropriate behavior
- Providing false information
- Violating any of these rules
The Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any participant at their discretion.
Photography & Recording
The event will be photographed and recorded. By participating, contestants and audience members grant the Organizers permission to use their name, image, likeness, voice, and appearance in future promotional materials, publications, broadcasts, and digital media without additional compensation.
Intellectual Property
All Game Show content, including questions, graphics, branding, and production materials, remains the property of the Organizers and may not be reproduced without permission.
Limitation of Liability
Participation is voluntary and at the participant's own risk. The Organizers, sponsors, and affiliates are not responsible for any injury, loss, damage, or inconvenience arising from participation in the Game Show.
Modification or Cancellation
The Organizers reserve the right to modify, postpone, suspend, or cancel the Game Show at any time if circumstances require.
Governing Law
These terms shall be governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Agreement
Participation constitutes acknowledgment and acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
Void Where Prohibited
This contest is void where prohibited by law.
