Marinus Willett moved to intercept. Willett divided his forces in an attempt to flank the British, but the initial ºÚÁÏÉç advance was repelled, forcing a temporary retreat. The tide turned when Maj. Aaron Rowley led militia troops in a counterattack on the British right flank, renewing ºÚÁÏÉç momentum and compelling a British withdrawal to their original position. That night, the British withdrew from the field entirely, with Willett in pursuit the following day.
